Making English Feel Like Conversation
KDOU is an AI-powered English learning application created for a new generation of learners. With a focus on children, the platform brings together English learning, real-time translation, and live conversations with AI into one simple subscription-based experience.
The challenge was to make something technically sophisticated feel natural and approachable. With AI working behind the scenes, the interface needed to stay simple enough for children to understand while creating an experience engaging enough to make them want to keep learning.
Learning Through Conversation
Rather than making English feel like another lesson, KDOU is built around interaction. Real-time translation helps learners understand as they go, while real-time conversations with AI give them a space to practice English through actual dialogue.
We shaped the UI around this idea—removing unnecessary complexity and making the important actions clear. The experience guides children naturally from learning to speaking, allowing the technology to stay in the background while conversation takes center stage.
Simple Enough to Explore
For the visual direction, we combined a playful character with a minimal interface. The goal was to create something that feels friendly and engaging for children without becoming visually overwhelming.
Color, typography, illustration, and interaction were carefully balanced to give KDOU its own personality while keeping the experience intuitive. The result is a digital environment that feels less like a traditional learning platform and more like a place where children can explore, practice, and talk.
Designing for What's Next
The KDOU experience was designed as a foundation for bringing AI-powered language learning into everyday education. The application is currently being prepared for publication, with a focus on making English learning more conversational, accessible, and engaging for young learners.
